Peanut Tree – Sterculia quadrifida

Sterculia quadrifida is a semi-deciduous native tree that grows to a height of 5-10 metres.

Large red fruit capsules appear on the tree in Summer(November-January). Within those capsules are small black seeds that resemble peanuts. They are edible and taste like a peanut.

Indigenous Australians used the bark, the seeds and the leaves as bush food and medicine

This rainforest tree will grow in part-shade, or full sun, but needs good drainage and some protection from wind..

Lamington Native Nursery has Sterculia quadrifida/Peanut Tree in stock right now.
